      One thing I've found myself doing repeatedly over the last day or so of consulting is (rather embarrassedly) trying to explain what a blog is, and have been twice asked if that can be changed.

      In the long run, it's probably much easier to start calling blog posts 'news', at least in the interface. News is easier to explain to someone who is coming to the topic cold: "When something happens, create a news item about it", "Subscribe to the news in a space", etc.

            [CONFSERVER-2358] Rename "blog post" to "News"

            Even better- can we make it a text box?  Our company would like to call it 'Deeper Explanation'

            +1 for being able to change Blog to News or rather just let me edit the name for 'Blog'.

            (It seems to have been hardcoded Blog, then News, now Blog again?)

            I think that for blogs in "regular" spaces renaming to "news" makes perfect sense.

            However, we have created personal spaces for people to blog. (Incidentally, I work for a major investment bank and we positively encourage people to blog in order to try to foster communication between different groups). In that context, the terms blog or perhaps journal would more appropriate.

            Maybe for the future "personal space" feature, the term "journal" could be used?

            "news" is understood and posting news is acceptable work behaviour
            "blog" is misunderstood and "an electronic journal" seems to my management like something people should do on their own time.

            Blogs are per definition user-focused (personal), not related to a "space" or logical organisation.

            So the rename gets a +1 from me.

            A somewhat related issue would be to support personal blogs in addition to "news", but that's a different issue..

            Two issues, actually: CONF-577 and CONF-1784

            Definitely NEWS. The thought of coworkers 'blogging' doesn't sit well with my bosses - it has the connotation of people sitting around, posting to an online journal, and basically not doing their jobs. At least with "News" there is some rationale to use it in this manner.

            Nathan: The effort required to make it a pref, and then maintain two different wordings for the same feature as Confluence grows would probably be better spent on other issues.

            To the other poster, have you tried

            {blog-posts:content=titles}

            ?

            I generally label the

            {blog-post} section as News anyway, so I'm in favour. The only issue with providing a section to rename the 'Blogs' section is that the macros will be unchanged.

            While you're rejigging the {blog-post}

            macro anyway, could you add an option to not have the blog body show (Just the title and date)? Or should we just modify the blog template ourselves?

            the ultimate solution: a setting somewhere as to what to call blogs..?

            Yes, exactly. Any chance this could make it in 1.3.1?
