First, I think you could use a Blog entry in the Components list up there.

I'm glad to see a blogging tool in 1.0b4. To me a blog is usually person-centric. So there are two features I'd really like to see:

      1) a New Blog Entry function for a user's profile. Basically so I can add a blog entry that isn't attached to a Space and is just for me.

      2) a "Recent Blog Entries" list on a user's profile page, just like "Recently Edited Pages". Or if not, at least include blog entries in the Recently Edited Pages list. They're not there now.

            Jeff,

Since Personal Spaces is one of the "most wanted", be assured we revisit this request frequently. However, there are a few problems we will have to solve in order to make it become reality. It's actually a feature we ourselves would like to see in Confluence in the near future.

            Cheers,
            Jens

Has this issue been revisited? While it seems to be considered low priority by Atlassian, our users are clamoring for it.

I too would very much appreciate Personal Spaces where users can create their own pages (both public and private) as well as blogs.

I'm hoping that personal spaces make their way into Confluence very soon. I've spoken with many of my users about the capability and they can barely wait.

Space-level blogs are great for announcements, meeting minutes etc. Confluence doesn't seem to do much for personal information, at the moment. Perhaps this is best left separate. On the other hand, if every user automatically had a personal space (with the ability to blog and create pages), that would already be very useful.

            All,
Thanks for expressing your requirements and ideas on this point. I know that this won't make it for Confluence 1.4 but it's definitely something we'll review, specifically relating to the concept of personal spaces.

            Cheers,
            Nick

I concur with Jeff Kunkle on all points.

Another reason why I'd very much like to see per-user blogs (with
permission access controls) is to hopefully get our typical IT folks
more used to the concept of Blogs and Wikis. I'm finding that these
concepts are so alien to more corporate IT types that they honestly
don't know what to do with it, or even worse, are terrified of it. I
think having personal spaces that folks can do more with will allow them
to get used to these concepts without interfering with the other, more
"official" spaces. And while we have a "TEST" space for people to play
around with, it's just not the same.

The access control for these personal blogs is also important. While
some may feel that the very definition of blogs means that it is public
to the entire world, for the kind of logging I would like for us to try,
this just would not be appropriate. In fact I think in some cases the
public nature of some blogs is the very thing that can turn off some
corporate IT types to blogging! Being able to restrict the personal
blogs to just that department or research group I think will allow
these IT types to see blogging in an entirely different light. Instead
of it being a much-feared liability, perhaps it could be viewed as a
means to significantly improve communication and collaboration by
sharing with others what other folks in the dept/group are working on.

I've had many requests from my users about wanting a personal blog. Everyone is very happy with the wiki portion and I would really hate to have to install another product to get personal blogs when Confluence has all the plumbing required. It would also be unfortunate to lose the ability to easily link between blog postings and wiki pages because of the need to install separate, non-integrated products. Many other wikis already have this dual nature and I think Confluence would also benefit from the capability.

On a related note, space-level blogging has never really caught on with my users in the six months or so we've been using Confluence. I'm not exactly sure why but my feeling is that blogging to a space seems too impersonal and official. Users are cautious about expressing their personal opinions when the scope of their blogging is so wide. To me, space-level blogging has a more authoritative feel than a personal one, which limits who is comfortable sharing their thoughts.

As a compromise, what if all users posted their messages to a personal blog but before submitting them could select one or more space-level blogs that their posting would also appear in? This would preserve the space-level blogging concept while allowing more conservative users to publish their thoughts in a personal location.

Charles, I too have to say that this would be very useful. Seems to me that this is at least somewhat related to CONF-1095, CONF-938, and CONF-800.

            Charles, that would be perfect.
