As per https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Confluence-articles/Removing-the-Companion-app-from-Confluence-Cloud/ba-p/1884657#M3406 we won't be fixing the Companion App on Cloud.

Again as per the article above if you are currently using the Companion app, here are some alternatives to try:

1. Use the /slash command to embed Google Drive files and edit these in real-time with your colleagues.

1. Manually replace the file from the Attachments page by deleting and re-uploading the file or by dragging and dropping the file.

Still commenting years later - can we get a fix or some eyeballs on this? 

Basically makes confluence not work as a document storage solution, and you think this is a Priority low............. and don't fix it for a couple of years

facing the same issue moving from OnPrem to Cloud  and now the Companion "edit" feature of Excel etc. does not work anymore without this workaround.

We tried to migrate away from sharepoint to Confluence but with this bad way to edit the Office files, I fear we have to wait another 2 years for a solution (so long-term is 2+ years)

So a year and a half later... nothing? Can't be bother fixing basic bugs? Isn't one of your value's 'Don't eff the customer'?

Sharepoint is crap but its still better than you when it comes to managing documents. I have given up on moving document management to Confluence and we will stay on Sharepoint now.

I agree with the other comments here, there is no way this should be long term backlog, very fundamental feature of a documentation system missing.

It is really really annoying that this functionality doesn't work anymore! Mainly for the reason it already DID work. It restricts us in the whole work with confluence.

Seriously?!?!?!  You FORCE me onto a new editor and the most basic functionality doesnt work and is you 'long term roadmap' which we all know is Atlassian's way of saying 'we wont do it'.

I am trying to do everything to move my organisation off sharepoint to you and you are making it VERY easy to go back to the old way. This capability was part of my business case!

What next, a house with a the toilet on the long term backlog?

Here's an idea, MAKE THE NEW EDITOR OPTIONAL!!

This should have a higher priority and severity as the rollout of the new editor has broken the documented edit attachments functionality. All of our confluence users are impacted even though there is a workaround.
