Ability to link text to an attachment in editor

Hi everyone, the ability to add files inline in sentences is now live. We hope you enjoy the feature and it's useful for you!

This ticket also speaks to two other features; the ability to add images inline in sentences, and the ability to reference files already added.

The ability to add images inline is now in progress (you can watch this ticket for updates: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFCLOUD-68501).

The ability to reference files already added is on the long term roadmap. Please vote on this ticket: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFCLOUD-65344 to help us understand if the feature should be prioritised sooner.

Hi everyone, sorry for the lack of updates on this ticket.

Here's where we are up to:

• We are actively working on the ability to be able to view an attachment inline vs having a thumbnail that takes up an entire line. This is mostly dev complete so I'll post when I have an update on rollout timings

I note from the comments that the following issues are also needed:

• The ability to allow images to be added inline in sentences (https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFCLOUD-68501). This is currently in the research/design phase
• The ability to reference files already added (https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFCLOUD-65344). We'll be looking at this after inline images

Furthermore we've also moved the ability for better image resizing (https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFCLOUD-67554) into the research/design phase

We know not having these features in Cloud has been problematic for many of you - so we've super excited to be working on these

Hi - I’m a Divya Sriram, a PM on the Confluence team. I recognize that it's been a while since you've heard from the team, so I'm here with the update we owe you.

Solving the need for attachment links is high on our priority list. Currently, we are focused on critical work to improve table formatting and performance for Confluence Cloud pages - problems that also affect a very broad pool of users.

Even though the solution to attachment links seems simple, there are a few technical considerations we need to tackle. We're actively investigating the best solutions to those problems and hope to start working on this in the next 6 - 9 months. We acknowledge that the delay on implementing this feature is frustrating for many of you. We will keep you updated on our progress.

My name’s Jonno and I’m a PM on the Atlassian Editor in cloud. This is an update on the status of this ticket/request.
 
This ticket alludes to a number of different features:

1. Being able to view an attachment inline vs having a thumbnail that takes up an entire line.
2. Being able to link to an attachment that exists elsewhere in Confluence.

We have a roadmap item in Q3 (Jan - March) to start work on the first problem - being able to view an attachment inline vs having a thumbnail that takes up an entire line. To be clear - this item will also include the missing ability to insert an already present image within the attachments of the specific page.

We do not yet have roadmap work assigned to the second problem - being able to link to an attachment that exists elsewhere in Confluence. We are, however, exploring what we could do in this area. 

I’ll continue to update this ticket as I have more to share.
