Ability to categorise events (e.g by label) and filter calendars for specific labels

    • Our product teams collect and evaluate feedback from a number of different sources. To learn more about how we use customer feedback in the planning process, check out our new feature policy.

NOTE: This suggestion is for Confluence Cloud. Using Confluence Server? See the corresponding suggestion.

      Original Request:
I want to be able to set a keyword filter, to display only certain events of a Team Calendar on a Confluence page. But it is not feasible to create multiple Calendars because it will be a maintenance nightmare.
Perhaps when you add the gadget, one of the fields can let you filter by keyword.

      Related:
Another option would be to consider introducing "Event" types and allowing users to make their own events and filter by the event types. This overlaps with TEAMCAL-523 quite a bit.

If I could filter events, i could have team members updating team calendars and have an uber-calendar showing just the leave event which would then be available from the Management team space or from within our email client.

As far as I can tell right now, every leave event needs to be entered in two separate calendars

            Would love to have this...

I began playing w/the Calendar on our Confluence instance today - it's pretty cool.

In additional Event types as discussed in TEAMCAL-1643 which I commented/voted on, it would really be incredible to have what this ticket asks for - the ability to filter on another (customizable) dimension of my choosing - such as on a Tag or Keyword. I didn't such an attribute, but it could be incredibly flexible and powerful.

With this, our team members could either remove all milestones but a certain Event type (i.e. I only see E-mail Drops, the new Event type we would create) when they are trying to be vertically-focused, or they can see all events related to a particular project with that Tag/Keyword (i.e. I only see all activities surrounding the project "Back To School Launch" whether they be dev or business Events) when they are trying to look at work more horizontally and/or cross-functionally.

LMK if you'd like more details of the specifics.

Hi susan.maddison thanks for your feedback. Team Calendars 4.0 (coming over the next couple of weeks) will have the ability to add different types of events to a calendar as previously described. We are going to remove the concept of "Calendar types" and it will be event-types.

Long-term we want to do exactly this issue. Give you, the ability to add additional types of events, given them an icon, a colour and be able to filter on them. Is that what you are after? Could you give me an example of the types of events you would add?

Is there any further updates on when we expect the changes to calendars and events to be made available?

We want to start using Calendars to plan release / people management but it currently means around 10 / 15 different calendars to try make it look right.... we are currently evaluating the package and looking to license if it can fulfil our requirements ...

states on the comments page as follows : I think you'll be pleased to know that we are launching a new version of Team Calendars very soon that redefines how calendars are organized. We're replacing calendar types (People, Event, and JIRA) with event types meaning that you can track your people and projects with a single calendar rather than many. In the new Team Calendars, you'll be able to track people related events, JIRA related events, and other miscellaneous events with a single calendar. I think you'll find this change will satisfy some of your frustrations with Team Calendars.

Is this due in 4.0 ? If not could you advise on a roadmap as to when these new features will be implemented?

Thanks, Justin. Yes, it does sound like maybe the way we've abstracted "types" of events isn't ideal.

At the moment we have specific types of events for specific calendars.

Maybe the model we should be considering is that we remove the concept of calendar types, but introduce the concept of event types. Then we allow you to filter based on event type, or maybe take it further allowing you to create your own event types...

Interesting feedback. Just to set expectations: I can't see us doing this in the near future, but I'll leave this issue open to get customer feedback.

I'll also rename the issue to be more reflective of the problem.

We do have JIRA, but not related to these specific projects.

Yes, I think you understand what the problem is. I do realize this is more challenging without any built-in categorization system. It would be easier if there were tags for Team Calendar events and we can filter by tags.

What could work is a filter by keywords in the description field. (Like a search). This would make the feature more freeform and allow us to filter events.

            Hi Justin,
Thanks for clarifying. My understanding, correct me if I'm wrong, is that you want one calendar to manage all your projects and then a single-click filter to show/hide different types of events (milestones and releases) - does that sound about right?

This might be a very challenging one for us right now, because we don't distinguish events by type. It's almost like you want to say this event is a milestone and this event is a release etc... Do you capture the same fields for a milestone and a release?

Question: Are you using JIRA at all?

Our team handles many projects, and each project have dates and milestones associated with them. We have project managers who handles multiple projects that are in the same category. This is probably pretty standard for a lot of companies. We want to use Team Calendars to track these projects' dates.

Here are number of Use Cases for the Team Calendar:

Project page - This page hold all our important information for 1 project. I would like to include a Calendar of dates for only 1 project on here.
Milestone page - This page shows all milestones for all the projects for Project Managers to view.
Release page - This pages shows all the Release dates only for all projects, so release team can see what is coming up.

            Problem:
I'm running into a couple of problems.

            1) Each project manager has to manage 5-6 project calendars right now and it's hard for them to keep track of which event is on which calendar. And when I integrate the calendars onto the Confluence page, I have to make sure I include all the projects. Ideally, I want the project managers to enter dates into one calendar and I can filter which dates to display from the gadget.

            2) We want to show only Releases for the Release page. There's currently no way to filter events on the Team Calendar gadget. Right now, they see all milestones for all projects.
