An immense permission field causes index unavailability

      Summary

      Some pages are not searchable due to index failure caused by their immense permission field.

      Expected Results

      All pages are searchable for whom permitted.

      Actual Results

      The warnings containing stacktrace like below occur:

      java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Document contains at least one immense term in field=\"permissionSets_string\"

      Note

      This issue is a root cause of CONFCLOUD-65098.

      Workaround

      Reorganize page permissions not to contain too many permitted users/groups.

            Hi everyone,

            This is Nataliia from the Confluence team. Thank you for raising this bug and bringing it to our attention. After our investigation into this issue, we weren’t able to reproduce the behavior within our instances. We would like to get to the root cause of what you’re experiencing. Could you provide some more details or a screenshot to help us narrow down this case?

            We will keep this issue open for another 14 days, but if we don’t hear back by then we will need to close this out to focus on our upcoming roadmap for all Confluence users.

            We've deployed a few changes to the search engine and those changes should have fixed most - if not all of the cases reported in this thread.

            Can you please check and confirm?

            "Immense" by my experience means 50 user permissions (resulting in 50 view and 50 edit permissions).
