User Problem
Users who rely on Markdown for their workflows and integrations in Trello are experiencing slowdowns and added complexity due to the transition from Trello's dedicated editor to the shared Atlassian platform editor. This change has led to inconsistencies in Markdown syntax interpretation and the inability to directly edit Markdown.
Suggested Solutions
Introduce a dedicated Markdown editing view in Trello where users can directly edit Markdown without conversion to WYSIWYG formatted text. Ensure that all standard Markdown syntax is fully supported to restore efficiency and confidence for users.

Description |
Original:
On August 15, 2024, Trello updated the card back editing experience to utilize the shared Atlassian platform editor service. The deprecation of Trello's dedicated editor also meant the deprecation of a direct Markdown editing experience. The shared editor does support on-the-fly interpretation of most Markdown syntax, converting it to the WYSIWYG editing experience, as well as the ability to "View" and copy the Markdown code. However, some minor inconsistencies with standard Markdown syntax interpretation, and the inability to directly view _and edit_ the Markdown introduces some extra steps and workflow slowdown for users that heavily utilize this syntax in their larger processes and integrations.
Adding support for: * a dedicated Markdown editing view, * where Markdown is directly editable (instead of converted to WYSIWYG formatted text, or is read-only), * where all formal Markdown syntax is supported would restore speed and confidence for users that rely on this syntax for their day to day operations. |

[ "Please" reinstate PLAIN TEXT in Trello boards. It would be nice to continue using the same product I've been using and paying for as I I have been for the last 10 years instead of having to reformat all my boards and all my content and then reformat it again when applying it to other platforms. A HUGE waste of time and one I cannot imagine I will continue to pay for without any response from Trello / Atlassian / Jira.
Especially when it's not an isolated issue, see: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFCLOUD-68272 And also your support: "If it helps, we have a feature request open tracking this: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFCLOUD-68272. Note that while the feature request is within the confluence section, Trello shares the same editor as Confluence and other Atlassian products. Specifically (from the feature request description)" Have added a note on X if anyone wants to add to it: https://x.com/StellaThought/status/1827522413472706573 ] |
Summary | Original: Trello Markdown | New: Dedicated Markdown Editing View on Card Back |
Description | Original: Hello! I am Trello User RedstoneMech18. On August 15, 2024, Trello has taken away markdown/syntax use for Trello Card editing. Personally, I have become accustomed to using the markdown editor and I liked it a lot. Unfortunately, it was taken away. However, previously, Trello had the option to switch between the new editor and the old markdown editor. My suggestion is to bring back this option. It may be old, but me, along with probably lots of other people, have liked the option to choose between these two editors. I prefer the old markdown one as I previously stated and would love if it was brought back, |
