On August 15, 2024, Trello updated the card back editing experience to utilize the shared Atlassian platform editor service. The deprecation of Trello's dedicated editor also meant the deprecation of a direct Markdown editing experience. The shared editor does support on-the-fly interpretation of most Markdown syntax, converting it to the WYSIWYG editing experience, as well as the ability to "View" and copy the Markdown code. However, some minor inconsistencies with standard Markdown syntax interpretation, and the inability to directly view and edit the Markdown introduces some extra steps and workflow slowdown for users that heavily utilize this syntax in their larger processes and integrations.
Adding support for:
- a dedicated Markdown editing view,
- where Markdown is directly editable (instead of converted to WYSIWYG formatted text, or is read-only),
- where all formal Markdown syntax is supported
would restore speed and confidence for users that rely on this syntax for their day to day operations.
