      User Problem

Users who rely on Markdown for their workflows and integrations in Trello are experiencing slowdowns and added complexity due to the transition from Trello's dedicated editor to the shared Atlassian platform editor. This change has led to inconsistencies in Markdown syntax interpretation and the inability to directly edit Markdown.

      Suggested Solutions

Introduce a dedicated Markdown editing view in Trello where users can directly edit Markdown without conversion to WYSIWYG formatted text. Ensure that all standard Markdown syntax is fully supported to restore efficiency and confidence for users.

            Hello,

Thank you for your interest in this feature request. After careful consideration, we have decided to change the status of this ticket from "Gathering Interest" to "Not being considered." The primary reason for this decision is that Trello uses a common editor across Atlassian products, which does not support markdown.

We understand that this may be disappointing news, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Please know that this decision was made to ensure consistency and compatibility across our product suite.

If you have any further questions or need assistance with other matters, please feel free to reach out.

            Best regards,

            Trello Product Management

Is anyone at TRELLO / JIRA listening to their paying customers?

I have to agree with Alfredo and everyone else on this thread. It's jeffing useless and we deserve better. I'm currently telling everyone in my circle to move away from Trello... and that will continue until you listen to us

For god's sake please restore the old editor, it's such a pain to write on this new editor, terrible experience.

Another developer who wants markdown back.  I've tried putting up with the WYSIWYG editor for a few months but it screws stuff up practically every time I use it.

"Please" reinstate PLAIN TEXT in Trello boards. It would be nice to continue using the same product I've been using and paying for as I I have been for the last 10 years instead of having to reformat all my boards and all my content and then reformat it again when applying it to other platforms. A HUGE waste of time and one I cannot imagine I will continue to pay for without any response from Trello / Atlassian / Jira.

Especially when it's not an isolated issue, see: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFCLOUD-68272

And also your support: "If it helps, we have a feature request open tracking this: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFCLOUD-68272. Note that while the feature request is within the confluence section, Trello shares the same editor as Confluence and other Atlassian products. Specifically (from the feature request description)"

Have added a note on X if anyone wants to add to it: https://x.com/StellaThought/status/1827522413472706573

Please please please reinstate the plain text option! The use of "Enter" vs "Shift+Enter" destroys all the formatting within a card - we're constantly pasting job info in and out of Trello from various other applications, and the double spacing is just awful to work with. Some things jump to double spacing when it should be a compact paragraph, and some stuff pastes with no line breaks at all. It's extremely inefficient for our team to work with, as we're having to go and edit. Please give us the option to go back to plain text.

            +1 from here.

Developer who uses MD on Slack, Trello, documentation, etc. Productivity is seriously affected with the new rich text editor.

Have been in touch with support who sent me here, but not until I had a few mails back and forth.

There are few things worse than being told how you should do something, besides having something that works great, being taken away.

Come on, Trello... let's have MD back as an option. I can't imagine there must be much dev/support, since it already works.

Please also note that Trello does still maintain this code for checklist items, as you can use markdown there and there is no rich text editor

I'll add that exported boards also appear to still be in Markdown format.  There are also third-party tools that re-enable Markdown in the UI for all but comments (don't want to mention specifics so that those tools continue to exist), so support is still there. Amusingly even Jira has Markdown support as I write this – though it is referred to as "Text".

There are thousands of comments from Trello users stressing how important Markdown is to them.  And as many of them have said, I also started using Trello a long time ago.  I have loved and recommended it much over those years, with Markdown support being one of the driving factors in selecting it.  I am now writing my own app for moving away from Trello and will no longer be recommending Trello.

To take the thread further from mnicky's post:

On the trello mobile app, everything is still plain markdown. So the markdown feature must still exist, and the format the cards are stored in internally must still be able to convert to and from markdown. As long as that's the case, and honestly a rich text editor on mobile would be even worse UX than on desktop, I don't buy the excuse that they had to remove it on desktop for "slowing down development".
