Cannot use Git Extensions (like git-lfs) on Mac OS X 10.11

OS: Mac OS X 10.11 (El Capitan)
git: Using default System Git (2.3.8)

Prior to Mac OS X 10.11, we could use the git-lfs extension with SourceTree by simply creating a symbolic link between /usr/local/bin/git-lfs => /usr/bin/git-lfs. But with Mac OS X 10.11, Apple introduced a new "rootless" mode where /usr/bin is restricted and cannot be written into, even with sudo. As per an answer from stackoverflow (copying-file-under-root-got-failed-in-os-x-el-capitan), this cannot be easily disabled.

So the main issue here (IMHO) is SourceTree not having /usr/local/bin in its PATH. Is this hard to fix?
