It would be nice to be able to see which characters within a line have changed. This would be especially useful when performing changes such as trimming trailing whitespace. In cases like this, the diff shows two apparently identical lines, one in red and one in green. Many diffing apps, such as Kaleidoscope and GitHub for Mac, highlight the whitespace that was changed, usually with a slightly different background color.
