Summary
As a user of Rovo Chat, Rovo Agents, or Rovo Dev, I would like to see an estimated credit cost for my prompt before I submit it, so I can make an informed decision about whether to proceed, especially as my monthly allowance gets lower.
Problem / Business Justification
Currently, Rovo credits are consumed silently after a prompt is submitted. Users only discover the cost retrospectively, through the usage dashboard or after noticing their credit balance has decreased. This is particularly problematic because:
1. Credit costs vary significantly by interaction type and complexity. For example, a standard Rovo Chat/Agent request costs 10 credits, while a Deep Research request costs 100 credits.
2. Organizations on Standard plans have limited monthly credit pools, so the visibility can help plan better the use.
3. There is currently no mechanism for a user to estimate the cost of their intended interaction before it is executed, creating a poor experience for budget-conscious teams and organizations with governance requirements.
Proposed Solution
Display an estimated credit cost indicator in the Rovo Chat and Rovo Agents interface, before the user submits a prompt. This could include:
• A small badge or tooltip near the submit button showing the estimated credit range (e.g., "~10 credits" for a Chat query, or "~100 credits" for Deep Research).
• A dynamic estimate that adjusts based on the selected interaction type (e.g., Chat vs. Deep Research vs. Agent task).
• Optionally, a soft confirmation prompt for high-cost interactions (e.g., "This Deep Research request will use approximately 100 credits. You have 120 remaining this month. Proceed?").
• Clear labeling of interaction types with their fixed or estimated credit costs in the UI (similar to how some AI tools show token estimates).
