The search bar does not allow searches for partial words. This has impacted my experience of Jira Work Management negatively and has made it more difficult to find tasks.
For example, if I have a task called "000843-B Drawing release" and I am trying to find it, searching "843," "000843," or "843-B" yields no results. I want to be able to search for partial words, especially on something that has a revision letter. I'm not always sure which revision I need to look for, so I want to type "000843" and find all tasks related to that string of numbers.
This can be replicated with any partial word. For a task called "Search Improvements," the word "improve" would bring up no results.
Thanks for your time.
Update December 21st, 2022
The search bar in the List view searches for issues containing words beginning with the search string in summary or description.
Examples describing this behaviour;
- If there exists a task with the summary "000843-B Drawing release", searching for "843" or "843-B" will not yield any results unless these terms exist in the description.
- If there exists a task with the summary "Search Improvements", searching for "improve" would yield results but "prove" would not yield any results
- If there exists a task with the summary "The Lone Ranger", searching for "ranger" would yield results but "anger" would not yield any results
