As a Jira Software project administrator, I want to be able to see and manage sprints in the Roadmap feature

    • Our product teams collect and evaluate feedback from a number of different sources. To learn more about how we use customer feedback in the planning process, check out our new feature policy.

As a Jira Software project administrator, I want to be able to see and manage sprints in the Roadmap feature.

This can help users to have a planning view of sprints in the same way it can be done currently with Epics.

[JSWCLOUD-17926] As a Jira Software project administrator, I want to be able to see and manage sprints in the Roadmap feature

Hi all, Thank you all for your valued feedback!

Roadmaps now has the ability (since July, 2021) to view/see sprints on the timeline interface  . The sprints appear at the top of the plan for the length of the sprint and require dates to be associated with the sprint.

I will close this ticket for now as most expressed the need to see sprints, but have created this request(JSWCLOUD-22024 ) to gather feedback on having the ability to manage sprints on the roadmaps timeline. We would like to understand:
            a) what does "manage sprints" mean to you?
            b) what goals you are trying to achieve by managing sprints on the timeline vs. the backlog

If you are interested, upvote JSWCLOUD-22024, and if you are open to having a deeper discussion about this problem or roadmaps in general, please don't hesitate to book some time with me

I would love to understand how roadmaps can better support you and your team.

Thank you again for your feedback,

            Hi f73a1a443c13,

It's not very obvious, but every sprint is tied to a board / board id. Even if another board appears to be same, i.e. same project, same filter, they are still considered as 2 separate and unique boards. Unfortunately, the Roadmap only shows sprints from the first / original board that you had. I will be sure to pass on this feedback to the team though.

            Best regards,

            Henry

            No, thats not the issue.

            • We have an existing board A located in Project A. This is showing the sprints on the roadmap
            • We duplicate board A, and this new board B is located in Project A. Using the same board query, same settings, same issues, same sprints. Nothing is different between Board A and Board B, other than the board names
            • Board B does not show the sprints on the roadmap

            Hi f73a1a443c13,

The Roadmap will only show sprints from the same board that it belongs to. If you have some issues that are assigned to sprints from other boards or projects, then those sprints would be ignored by the Roadmap. From what I understand, this may be what you are experiencing.

            Best regards,

            Henry

This does not look to work consistently with having sprints at the top of the roadmap. Ive tried copying a board within a project where the sprints show at the top as expected, but on the copied board they dont show up even tho everything is the same.

If a Sprint is shared by multiple Boards within the same project, is there a reason why it would be displayed in one Board's Roadmap and not another's?

            Hey all,

Thanks for sharing your feedback and need for this functionality.

Just wanted to share an update that we've recently provided the ability to view sprints on the Roadmap interface. The sprints appear at the top of the plan for the length of the sprint and requires dates to be associated to the sprint (the functionality to add dates to future sprints is also a recent addition).

This is the first step towards providing the ability to automatically view child issues scheduled by the sprint they're assigned to.

It's important to note the ability to manage sprints from the context of the roadmap is not included and not on our current roadmap. So for this reason we will keep this ticket open. I hope this helps with your needs to get a planning view of sprints. We're keen to hear feedback and whether the ability to manage the sprints continues to be a requirement.

            Kind regards,
