      Currently I can either have ALL my users as customers or an "invite only" list.

      Given the following user, "bsmith", "Bob Smith", "bob@abc123.com" I cannot add him as a customer because bsmith isn't a valid email address and bob@abc123.com creates a whole new user with that address as the username.
