NOTE: I moved this issue to the Service Desk project because a partner helped us discovering that the issue is related to Jira Service Desk 4.4.1 and not to Jira Software.

      Issue Summary

      Autowatch does not work

      Steps to Reproduce

      1. Install jira 8.3.0 or 8.3.1 or 8.4.1 or latest with Service Desk 4.3.0,4.3.1 or 4.4.1
      2. Set the Autowatch function to Enabled on the system or in a user profile level.
      3. Create an issue.

      Expected Results

The reporter is added as a watcher.

      Actual Results

The user is not added as a watcher.

      Workaround

From the System Service Desk Addon disable the sd-auto-watch-predicate-impl module.

      Then Autowatch feature works again.

Is there a fix to this other than disabling the add-on component?

Important to note is that one side effect noted by disabling the module is that Jira Service Desk customers are added as watchers (in addition to as a reporter/request participant) to JSD requests.

Answer: How do you get to the screen which is mentioned in the description?

            1. Manage Apps
            2. Filter the apps by Application Components.
            3. Find "Jira Service Desk", expand it
            4. 122 of 122 modules enabled (on the right) click the plus to expand it
            5. Search for the module to disable
            6. Click Disable next to it.

Note that now it says 121 of 122 modules enabled.

Problem still continues after Upgrading from 8.4.1 to 8.5.1. Jira and Service Desk are both installed.

After I disabled the module, autowatch starts working again.

How do you disable the Jira Service Desk autowatch? Also how do you get to the screen which is mentioned in the description?

            We are using DataCenter

We've discovered this problem on a customer instance.

To reproduce the problem take a clean Jira Software instance and install Jira Service Desk only.

            • Jira Service Desk 4.4.1
            • Jira Software 8.4.1

If I remove Jira Service Desk autowatch starts working.

Same problem in Jira Server v8.3.3. We really use and rely on this.

I have noticed it is also no longer adding in the Assignee, Approvers or Participants as Watchers when they are added to the issue.
