I would like for approvers to be able to reply to an email with their approval decision - "approved" or "declined" and the request would be transitioned accordingly. This saves the user from the step of needing to login to approve/decline.

Many of the approvers do not live in Jira and would have a more favorable experience with JSD if they weren't required to login to approve. It seems like an incoming email from the email address of the approver would be sufficient for verifying that the approval came from the denoted approver on the request.

[JSDSERVER-6127] Approval via email - user doesn't need to login

I believe the same option that is offered in the cloud version for approval security settings should be copied over to the non-cloud versions of JSM. These security options, which are already present in the cloud version, give much greater flexibility on how to allow customers to approve or decline requests.

Because we do not have this option currently, supervisors who don't need JSM accounts must sign in to approve requests making the process much more complicated than it needs to be.

This link is to the announcement which shows the security settings that are missing in non-cloud versions of JSM.

Just an additional two cents here: sometimes we have external auditors that get a warmer, fuzzier feeling if there is a typed-out "approve" or "decline", as opposed to clicking an  approve button. I know this may seem like mere perception and cosmetics, but to some it still matters. Kind of like how we still spend money and time "collecting a signature" at PoS terminals and the like. Having the typed out statement be the trigger for the state transition makes some parties more accepting of the authenticity and "offiicalness" of the approval.
