As part of https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSDSERVER-15032 a new API was put in place to fix some of the issues. The new API provides a way for plugin developers to intercept form rendering and hook into the new API components. The new API allows for:

• Hiding React based fields before the form renders
• Retrieving the current value of a react field
• Setting the current value of a react field
• Reacting to value changes (onChange) of the react fields
• Filtering options of the react fields

However the DOM API of the pre-react fields also allowed all of the other events to be utilised (focus, blur, keypress, mouse events, etc). These are still inaccessible on the React fields and need to be accommodated
