When a user who owns Assets reports is deleted from an internal/external user directory, their Assets reports become completely inaccessible even if the report is shared. The reports:
- Fail to load in the Assets Reports UI
- Cannot be edited, duplicated, or deleted
- Cannot have their ownership transferred
- Display the raw user key (e.g., JIRAUSER10200) instead of the user's display name
Jira's built-in user deletion/deactivation safeguard only checks for associations with core Jira entities (reported issues, assigned issues, comments). It has no awareness of Assets report ownership, which is stored at the plugin level in the AO_8542F1_IFJ_WIDGET Active Objects table.
Error message:
"Looks like we’re having trouble retrieving this report. You can remove this report or contact your admin for further details"
What Was Tested
- Sharing the report with an active user before/after deactivation; does not resolve the issue. The report still fails to load because sharing only controls visibility/access permissions, not ownership. The underlying dependency on the owner's active account status remains.
- Jira local system admin accounts are also unable to access or manage such reports.
Current Workaround
The only way to recover these reports is a direct database update:
