When working on issues, case handlers would like to have the possibility of checking if the reporter is "online", so they know they can reach out to the reporter via, for example, Microsoft Teams, in order to help the reporter faster. Even better if case handlers could launch MS Teams Chat directly from Jira.
Other tools such as ServiceNow are able to indicate user presence .
See https://docs.servicenow.com/en-US/bundle/store-release-notes/page/release-notes/store/it-service-management/store-rn-itsm-integration-ms-teams.html ("Added framework support for fetching user presence in Teams for Request Based Chat")
Similar functionality has been provided by add-ons, such as [Lync and Skype Connector for Jira | Atlassian Marketplace|https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1212689/lync-and-skype-connector-for-jira?tab=overview&hosting=server] but unfortunately the add-on vendor has not updated the add-on for Data Center compability, or Office 365 / MS Teams compability.
This add-on does not only provide the functionality to display user presence, but also the functionality to start a chat.
Microsoft Graph API does support checking user presence, see [Get presence - Microsoft Graph v1.0 | Microsoft Docs|https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/graph/api/presence-get?view=graph-rest-1.0&tabs=http]
