      Problem

When receiving a Jira notification on the mobile app, the device is set to silent mode, even though the "Allow Jira to set ringtone volume" setting is not enabled. This causes users to miss critical notifications, especially for on-call scenarios.

      Environment

      • Device: Google Pixel 9 Pro
      • OS: Android 16 (Security update: Oct 5, 2025)
      • Jira Mobile App (latest version as of Nov 2025)
      • Do Not Disturb (DND) mode: Enabled during testing

      Steps to Reproduce

      • On a Pixel 9 Pro (Android 16), install and log in to the Jira mobile app.
      • Ensure "Allow Jira to set ringtone volume" is enabled in the app settings.
      • Put the phone into Do Not Disturb (DND) mode.
      • Trigger a Jira notification (e.g., on-call alert).
      • Observe the phone's sound profile after the notification is received.

      Expected Results

      • With "Allow Jira to set ringtone volume" enabled, the app should change the phone's sound profile to ON if necessary, but should not set it to silent/mute.
      • The phone should retain its previous sound settings after receiving a Jira notification.

      Actual Results

      • After receiving a Jira notification, the phone is set to silent mode.
      • This behavior occurs especially when the phone is in DND mode.
      • Users may miss important calls or non-Jira alerts due to the phone being unexpectedly muted.

      Workaround

      • Disabling "Allow Jira to set ringtone volume" does not prevents the issue. But this would also prevent Jira from ensuring the phone rings if it was unexpectedly on silent, as per the feature.
      • Users may attempt to manually check and restore sound settings after receiving notifications, but this is not practical for on-call scenarios.

      Notes

      • The issue poses a significant risk for on-call users who rely on audible notifications.
      • The behavior is not documented and is unexpected based on current app settings.
      • Tested using Pixel 9 Pro, Android 16, but the issue may affect other devices/OS versions as well.
