Jira doesn't seem to clean the temp directory. I have hundreds of files in jira/temp, named tempattach3600dat etc. Looking at the file dates, many of the files are several months old. This isn't very major for our installation but I guess this might be bad for installations where people attach a lot of large files.

            [JRASERVER-9070] Jira doesn't clean up $JIRA_HOME/jira/temp

Yes, AbstractMessageHandler.java creates a temporary file and returns it to the caller, who presumably isn't deleting it.

            Thanks for the report.

Yes, sorry I meant %CATALINA_HOME%\temp. We're seeing this behavior under Red Hat Enterprise Linux, using Jira 3.2 & Java 1.4.2 and Jira 3.4 & Java 1.5. I think Confluence used to have similar temp file clearing issues but they were fixed so maybe you can ask the Confluence team?

Also based on a previous report, if Jira crashes there's a chance that Lucene lock files are left into the temp directory which can cause any indexing operations which rely on locks to fail.

            Hi Sulka,

I am not 100% sure what you mean by $JIRA_HOME. Are you talking about the %CATALINA_HOME%\temp directory or the systems temp directory?

I have tested adding an attachment under on windows and have not seen any files like what you have described created anywhere. What type of OS are you using?

            Cheers,
            Justin
