    • We collect Jira feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

NOTE: This suggestion is for JIRA Server. Using JIRA Cloud? See the corresponding suggestion.

      From a jira-user post:

The guys here have grumbled quite a bit about the inability of Jira (out
of the box) to notify people when other tasks they are blocking become
resolved. I was thinking last night about this (hey shouldn't it be just
the Jira developers who dream about it?!) and was reminded of a simple
      solution I've thought of before:

Add a notification event for "Linked Issue Resolved", and a new
notification target grouping "Assignees of all linked issues"

This event would be triggered when any issue that is inwardly linked
(linked TO by other issues) is resolved, and notifications, if setup
usign the new notification grouping, would be sent to all Assignees of
the inwardly linking issues. Hey presto you find out when issues you
      depend on are fixed.

This is loosely related to some of the ideas in:

      http://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRA-2678

[JRASERVER-8514] New "Linked Issue Resolved" notification type

This is almost a deal breaker, why even have linking if it doesn't do anything? We have TONS of linked issues and as far as I can tell linking does almost nothing to better the software. Links don't really matter in the history or activity on the parent issue. They don't really restrict your ability to resolve issues out of the box. And as far as I can tell they don't even make it easier to send notifications of when work is ready to be started. So WTF is the point? One might think, screw it just use sub-tasks right?! OH WAIT... none of this stuff works with sub-tasks either... Ok, so use Epics and Issues right... har har... joke is on me... still nothing out of the box. Atlassian's "advice" if you want to call it that...  "oh there may be a 3rd party app you can buy that will add that functionality".... Seriously... that's your answer... This isn't some off the wall wacky request... just to make issue linking useful...

Rant over. Voting up this feature. This is almost necessary to make linking useful unless you want people to just sit at there desks and literally WATCH JIRA issues.

There's now a very easy way to notify people watching linked issues using Automation for JIRA! Available for both Server and Cloud.

You can create a rule that comments on linked issues when an issue is resolved. JIRA will then notify the watchers, though you could also set Automation to email, hipchat, slack or text the watchers as well.

The rule would look something like:

This was done as part of work to make related issues easier to work with. For more details see https://blog.codebarrel.io/synchronize-parent-and-sub-task-issues-with-automation-for-jira-bdcca6c9d453

            Hi,

            I created this plugin: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/manage/plugins/net.koncis.atlassian.issue-type-notification-schemes.

By defining notification schemes as usual, you can create (with the plugin) issue type notification schemes, and thereby map issue types to notification schemes.

I hope that helps you all.

Please let me know if you find any problems using it.

Does anyone know a workaround to this issue? Is there a script command I can use to get this same functionality?

I would like to email out the assignee of an issue when all of the blocking tasks have been resolved and it is now ready for them to start on.

This is very needed feature by us too.
            When can it be implemented?

3 yrs later, I ask the same thing.

If it has been implemented, I can't find it.
