Issue Summary

The history tab does not reflect changes made to the inward/outward settings of issue links. For example, of the content of the inward and outward columns of an issue link configuration is reversed, such change will not be reflected in the Jira issue history tab, and the history will show the reverse linking.

Environment

Issue can be replicated in any Jira 8.x and 9.x version.

Steps to replicate

1. Go to the page ⚙ > Issue > Issue linking
   • Check the inward and outward configuration for the Block type. By default, it should be as below:
   • Outward Description: "blocks"
   • Inward Description: "is blocked by"
     
2. Create 2 Jira tickets, and link 1 ticket to another ticket using the link "blocks"
   • Check the Issue Links panel and the History tab and verify that the link direction matches (it should show "blocks" in both locations)
     
3. Go back to the page ⚙ > Issue > Issue linking
   • Reverse the content of the Outward and Inward configuration:
     
4. Go back to the issue created earlier, and check the Issue Links panel and the History tab

Expected results

The link direction in both the Issue Links panel and the History tab should match. They should both say "is blocked by" (since we reversed the inward and outward description).

Actual results

The history tab is not reflecting the change we made (it still shows "blocks"), while the Issue Links panel is reflecting the change and is showing "is blocked by":

There is no known workaround.
