Recovering the index from another working node is markedly slower than recovering from an existing snapshot (roughly twice the time, eg 30m for a snapshot and 50m from another node). There is also increased load on the node which generates the snapshot.
If there are snapshots available in the shared_home, they should be used before requesting a snapshot from another node.
