Problem Definition
The current Mail queue gives administrator information such as what emails are in the queue and if it is sending an email at the very time. This does not tell administrator if the mail queue is currently stuck or what is the reason of it being stuck.
Suggested Solution
Add a checker to check the current status of the mail queue, for example:
- To check if the mail queue is actually sending mail or populating mail by filter subscription
- Provide information of the last time a notification mail was delivered
- Show a portion of the error from the log indicating what causing outgoing mail failure
Workaround
- Mail queue REST API can be use to run in external script in interval to see the number of mails in the mail queue.
- Mail Queue Monitor REST API free app can be used to "Monitor your error queue to detect issues before your users do"
