Same issue here. We are a bilingual organisation and need the activity stream to match the user's profile.

We have the same problem. Workaround worked well in Jira 7.x but it doesn't in Jira 8.x.

Issue resolved for myself and Bryce after Disabling and Re-Enabling the plugin

Option 1 is unreasonable and option 2 didn't work. Try the following:

1. Restart Jira
2. As soon as it's up accesses it with a user who is set to the same language as the instance setting 'default language'
3. This should reset the activity stream functionality and prevent mixed-up languages in it

In general the workaround should be valid, however, please be aware that the problem can re-occur on instance restarts when a user with a language other than Jira's default language is the first user to login.

I experienced similar bug in 7.12.3. In the activity stream gadget, the date, comment and watch buttons (e.g. 20/ноя/18 5:39 PM Комментарий Наблюдение) were in russian, the rest was in english. Workaround 2 worked for me.

This issue just started happening to us today - JIRA 7.5.3.  Disabling and enabling the plugin did not help.

This just started happening to us 2 or 3 days ago. Our JIRA was fully English. Suddenly Japanese started appearing in the Activity Stream.

We are using Atlassian JIRA Project Management Software (v7.7.0#77001-sha1:3be3151) 
 

Pleae resolve this issue or provide a workaround soon.

I just experienced this on my 7.6.4 instance - activity stream language turned to Japanese (or maybe Chinese?)

Last time I  had French, but it was resolved somehow.

Now it's Chinese...

Disable and enable the Activity add-on doesn't work for me.

sorry for the non-existing image....whatever went wrong. eitherway, i tried the work around a second time, and waited longer between disabling and reenabling the plugin. now it worked. 

BTW i had chinese characters in my stream...this looks then realy weird...

We are on Standalone server Jira 7.8.1.
Still an issue in this version.

Disabling and enabling JIRA Activity Stream Plugin fixed it but not before background re-indexing the instance.

Before re-indexing the instance the gadget was not rendered throwing an error.

I specifically had to stop and restart Jira ACTIVITY STREAM Plugin under addons/system. I would try that, if that what you did then..  :/ 

I also considered removing all languages – that didnt work in my case anyway.

I really had to dig to find the gadget that did it for me, will take a gander to see if it rings any bells, will edit this post. 

I was thinking maybe disable all language except english US

not working in my case.

If you disable the activity stream gadgets and re-enable them, it should work as a work around. I am using 7.10.1 and have not seen this issue return....yet

Same here. we are using 7.4.4.

This issue appeared today for the activity gadget on out 7.7.1 install. We see some Chinese text where it should be US English. Is there a workaround available? 

We encountered this issue in the Activity streams in every project and in the Activity streams gadget today in Jira Server 7.4.2.

Chinese texts were displayed in the german translation.

We just encountered this behavior in Enterprise Release 7.6.4 as well.  Has anyone found a workaround for this, or are your users having to just ignore the timestamps in the Activity stream ever since Jira 6.3?

JIRA Software Server v7.1.6#71010-sha1:428b2b3, Confluence Server v5.9.10 Just started out of nowhere today for some people and not others that are all located in the same building with the same settings. This is a serious issue that is not acceptable for an enterprise level application.

Happening in our instance, across all users. Extremely annoying, especially for admins who need to configure Jira gadgets. 

Happening in Jira 7.7.0.

This hasn't happened again since I was able to find the work around. disabling the gadgets and re-enabling them. Just thought someone here might be interested in that. Doesn't mean it wont happen again.

Jira Server 7.5.3 also seeing this.

@Atlassian Please bear in mind that although it´s not a big issue there are still customers who use JIRA and can see this issue whenever they use the activity stream to review their activity. So we as a company should provide at least any information about the ETA of the fix. Cheers

We have this issue with Jira 7.4 and text is showing in Chinese.

Please fix this asap because our users don't speak Chinese, rendering the activity stream useless.

We have Jira software 7.4.5 + Jira service desk 3.7.1, and it happens only in the activity stream gadget in Personal profile screen.

I try to disable and enable the activity stream add-on but still not working.

This issue is occuring on one of our clients systems as well. Could we provide any information to support the solution process?

I also noticed this issue for the first time this morning. Recently a clone was made of our production instance and the error is not present in that environment, so this has happened in the last two weeks or so but I cannot identify any change in the system that could have caused this. The only changes recently have been general admin configurations.

The difference I see, is the mix of german and english only shows on the specific Activity Stream that is located on the User Profile page and on the Project Summary page (those that I cannot edit or remove by design). The issue does not persist on the Activity Stream gadget that is placed on a dashboard manually which is editable to me.

Using v 6.3.15. The production instance was shut down and restarted today but the issue still present.

We also have seen this issue, and only with the Activity Stream. The suggested fix of "Refresh Client Resources" described JRA-28392 and JSP-234254 did not resolve the issue. We also do not have translations displaying incorrectly as described in JRA-28392's other attached bitmaps. I have attached a sample from out Activity Stream.

The mixed languages seem to only come from the operations links in the activity stream.

Discussing this with mquail, we believe that this is limited to the activity streams gadget and these UI elements in it.

Root cause analysis needs to be on this problem before we confirm this as a verified bug report.
