Jira Version 6 incorporated the Detailed Views that allow editing issues directly from the Issue Navigator. JRA-7133
Users are requesting for fields to be editable directly from the field value.
The reasons are:
- The moment you shift to details view from the list view, all you can read about the issue is it's name on the left side panel and details screen on the right side panel.
- this would be much easier
to edit than clicking on the cog icon or going to the detailed view screen
