NOTE: This suggestion is for JIRA Server. Using JIRA Cloud? See the corresponding suggestion.
JIRA does not officially document the support of Maria DB, or indicate any support for this. As some major Linux distributions are moving to use MariaDB and the functionality is similar, it would be good to provide support for this Database version.
Suggested Solution
Officially support MariaDB for JIRA, including adding documentation and any other articles as required.
Workaround
MySQL can be installed on RHEL, Oracle Linux, CentOS and Fedora using the MySQL Yum repository, https://dev.mysql.com/downloads/repo/yum/. The Quick Guide to Using the MySQL Yum Repository walks through how to configure the repository and install MySQL.
