Assignee Dropdown sorts by username, can this be changed?

When creating an issue the assignee select box sorts with username. But the display name is showed in the dropdown, creating the problem of non-sorted select box. This is a pain with over 600 hundred possible assigness. Is there any configuration that can be done to fix this.
