Mentions drop-down doesn't autocomplete properly on slow connections

      The mentions drop-down ignores user input when it is waiting for a reply from the server. On servers like JAC that take literally 5 seconds to respond, this breaks the drop-down. Steps to reproduce:

      1. Open a new comment input and type "@rsmar". Note that the browser has made a request for https://jira.atlassian.com/rest/api/2/user/viewissue/search?issueKey=JRA-26287&projectKey=JRA&maxResults=10&username=r&_=1333404334727 (request to auto-complete "r", the first character typed)

      2. 5 seconds later when the response comes back, the list of suggested users has little relation to what I typed:

      3. At this point if I type the last remaining character I get a useful autocomplete:
