A new sharing permission for "editing" filters and dashboards should be created

    • We collect Jira feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

NOTE: This suggestion is for JIRA Server. Using JIRA Cloud? See the corresponding suggestion.

When JIRA 3.13 was released we added "shared dashboards and filters". And while that was a step forward, it seems now we need an extra "share permission" that of "editable by others".

The use case is that some one in a team can create (and hence own) the shared dashboard or filter, but others in the team can "edit/improve" the situation by being able to edit the dashboard/filter. This promotes better team integration.

In terms of code change, this is very doable. Currently the dashboard service and search request service check for ownership when deciding if the person can edit a dashboard/filter. It could check also for this new "edit permission" and retain the same interface otherwise.

We have two similar issues with large numbers of votes:

            This issue, and JRA-17783.

We want to make sure there is only one issue around being able to give edit permissions to more than one person for a filter or dashboard. So I'm closing this issue as a duplicate, but we will make sure and use the comments and feedback on all linked issues when we begin development on this issue.

This issue is stated specifically as the edit permission for filters, the other specifies it as a "group" feature. But both are essentially about adding the notion of having more than one editor for a filter or dashboard.

            Cheers,

            JIRA Product Management

Any update to when we might see this Atlassian?

Really need this functionality. We literally have to copy+paste filters, have them deleted by Admins, then recreate them. And this even breaks if we are "smart" and use the filter ID's in our complex filters rather than the filter name (which breaks when filters are renamed, etc.)

We use shared dashboards. Having that ability would be great. The Jira SU plugin is not feasible, because users do not get administrative rights at the company I am working.

Administrators cannot edit user filters, but it is required to provide user support (for the requests such as "why my filter doesn't work?").

The option is to use JIRA SU plugin (as J Thomas said) or to edit the database through SQL or a database browser.

+1 I found this issue because one of my end users asked:

How do I allow users within a group to edit a dashboard I've created? I can only see an option to share the dashboard, but not edit.

So it's not just JIRA admins wanting an easy life that support this issue (at least we can use Jira SU to log in as the owner) - end users are requesting it too.

Gets my vote, I think this would be a great improvement.

The filter side of this issue is also in JRA-8303, so I am throwing my vote in here as well. It would be great if a filter creator could specify users to have editting permissions. We use these filters to help with issue prioritization with our international offices and it is a real pain when someone is out sick or on vacation and no one else can update the filter. The only option is to save a duplicate filter with the additional issues. Of course then the original poster will still have to delete the first filter.

I would also like to see this.
On a related note, is there a way for Administrators to do this now (edit other shared dashboards)? This would be useful if a user is no longer with the company.

Also gets the thumbs up from us. Would really love this functionality.
