When viewing issues, JIRA hangs for 30s, then renders page without stylesheets when using GZip compression, mod_jk / mod_proxy_ajp and SSL

      When JIRA is used:

      • with GZip compression enabled (not the default)
      • behind Apache configured with mod_proxy_ajp (and probably mod_jk)
      • with Apache delivering pages over SSL (https)

      then viewing an issue the first time will work fine, but refreshing (ctrl+r) the page will cause it to hang for 30s, before displaying the issue with a broken CSS stylesheet:

      This is consistently repeatable in Mozilla 1.7. It is sometimes repeatable in Firefox (2.x). We have not heard of the problem affecting Safari or IE.
