Ability to edit attributes of an issue in a table view

As a JIRA user, very often I need to change say the priority or status of a set of issues in my task list. Right now I have to open each issue, then click edit, then Update then get back to the list. This is a lot of steps for something that the user has to do often. I am aware of the Bulk Edit feature, but this only works if the edits you are planning to make are the same for the whole set of issues. So if you are changing the status on one and the priority on another two, you can't use this feature.
