Background
On Jira boards, when the card cover images setting is turned on, users can display cover images on work item cards.
Previously, for team-managed projects, the documented behavior for card cover images on boards was:
> “As a reminder, the {}first image{} attached to a work item is used as the cover image in a team-managed project. There is no way to manually select a cover image other than the first attachment.”
> (See: https://support.atlassian.com/jira/kb/use-cover-images-for-issue-cards-on-boards-in-jira-cloud/)
Current behavior
In the current Jira Cloud experience, this behavior appears to have changed:
- Attaching an image to a work item no longer automatically sets it as the card cover on boards, even when card covers are enabled.
- Users now need to manually select a cover image for each work item.
Feature request
- In addition to the current behavior, when card cover images are enabled on a board, please provide an option so that:
- By default, the first image attachment on a work item is automatically set as the card cover,
- While still allowing users to change or remove the cover manually if needed.
