Problem
The “Clean up custom fields” page at
/jira/settings/system/performance/metrics/customField/cleanup
(related to https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-93780) suggests fields for cleanup, but does not warn admins that these fields might still be used in:
- Filters
- Automation rules
- Workflows
- Dashboard gadgets/widgets
- Other places where fields can be referenced
Until https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-93780 is implemented, this can cause fields to be cleaned up while still in use, breaking filters, automations, workflows, and dashboards.
Suggested Solution
Add a clear warning in the “Clean up custom fields” UI when proceeding with cleanup, for example:
Warning
Before cleaning up any fields, please confirm that they do not appear in any filters, automations, workflows, dashboard widgets, or other places where the field might be used.
This is intended as a lightweight UI safeguard that can be delivered independently of the broader enhancement in https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-93780.
