Site Optimizer recommends to cleanup of custom fields based on the following criteria:

• aren’t in a space or a screen, or
• have no defined contexts

It does not consider other possible usages of custom fields if they are not in a screen:

• Filters
• Automation rules
• If the field has values associated to work items
• Workflows

Suggested Solution

Consider the usage of custom fields before as part of generating recommendations for trashing in Site Optimizer.

That would cut a lot of needed manual work that will be required from admins to confirm the actual usage of fields.
