Summary:
- In Germany and other regions, company names often include legal forms such as "Co.KG" (e.g., "My Name & Co.KG").
- Currently, Jira automatically resolves these abbreviations as Smart Links, which is inappropriate and can cause unnecessary traffic and potential privacy issues.
Problem Statement:
- When entering company names like "My Name & Co.KG" in Jira, the "Co.KG" portion is automatically converted into a Smart Link.
- This behavior is undesirable because:
-
- It creates unnecessary outbound traffic to these domains.
-
- It may inadvertently leak information to external or even malicious sites.
-
- It does not align with how other collaboration tools (e.g., MS Teams, Slack) handle such abbreviations—they do not auto-link these common legal forms.
- The only current workaround is for individual users to adjust their personal Smart Link display settings, which is not scalable or effective for organizations.
Proposed Solution:
- Preferred: Jira should maintain an internal list of common legal abbreviations (for example, "Co.KG") and avoid resolving them as Smart Links.
- Alternative: Allow administrators to define a blocklist of terms or domains that should not be auto-resolved as Smart Links.
