Issue Summary
In Jira Cloud, when users attempt to leave a required custom field empty on the work item view screen, the following misleading error message is displayed:
We couldn't update the <field name> value.
You can try again in a few minutes, or refresh the page.
Try editing the field again.

This message does not clearly indicate that the field is required, potentially leading to confusion for users.
Steps to Reproduce
- Create a custom field and add it to your work item view screen
- Add a value to the field
- On the field configuration, set the field as Required
- Try clearing the field so the field is empty
Expected Results
This would clearly inform the user that the field cannot be left blank, preventing confusion and avoiding the impression that the error is due to a system or network issue.
Actual Results
We couldn't update the <field name> value.
You can try again in a few minutes, or refresh the page.
Try editing the field again.
Workaround
Currently there is no known workaround for this behavior.
UPD:
Please take action, as the issue now is that after trying to remove the required Component field value, you do not receive any messages at all. The previous value of the Component field just reappears without any notice.
