Current functionality in Jira allows automation rules to be triggered by comments added to issues. However, there is no native capability to differentiate between comments added directly via the Jira interface and those added via an incoming mail handler. This limitation restricts the flexibility of automation rules, particularly for users who wish to trigger actions only when comments originate from email.
Proposed Feature: Introduce a feature that allows automation rules to distinguish between comments added through the Jira interface and those added via an incoming mail handler. This could be accomplished by tagging or flagging comments that originate from email, enabling users to set up more precise automation triggers.
Use Case: A team uses an automation rule that creates a new ticket whenever a comment is added to an issue. They wish to modify this rule so that it only triggers when a comment is added via an email. Currently, this is not possible due to the lack of identifiable attributes for mail handler comments.
Benefits:
Enhanced flexibility and precision for automation rules.
Workarounds:
The comments are not recognised by automation in case it came from a handler. No workarounds for now. More on that here: AUTO-1909
