JIRA Cloud breaks the behavior of the middle mouse button when clicking sub tasks on a user story (or user stories on an epic). The correct behavior is to open the task on a new tab in the background, but the new tab is now incorrectly set active right away.
This is extremely annoying when you wish to open multiple tasks from the same user story in the background to then review them. As it breaks standard browser behavior, it appears to be a bug in JIRA.
Note that the problem does not appear everywhere, only in certain places.
- Make sure that your browser is set to open tabs in background when middle clicking (I have verified with both Chrome and Firefox, so I do not think it’s a browser issue).
- Open a Scrum Board.
- Middle click a user story that has sub tasks. Note that the user story is correctly opened in a new tab in the background, i.e. focus still remains on your scrum board.
- Go to the tab with the user story.
- Middle click one of the tasks. Note that the task is opened in a new tab, but that focus is switched directly to the new tab. This is incorrect, focus should remain on the tab with the user story.
- Go back to the tab with the user story.
- Control + Click the task, note that the correct behaviour is now seen, i.e. the task is opened in a new tab in the background.
