Activity Stream gadget not working on a single user filter

      Issue Summary

Activity Stream gadget not working on a single user filter

      Steps to Reproduce

      1. Select any Dashboard
      2. Edit Dashboard
      3. Add gadget
      4. select "Activity Stream" gadget
      5. Edit the gadget and filter by "username" and select the user you wish to filter by

      Expected Results

Activity Stream to show the related user activity

      Actual Results

Message showing: "No activity was found"

      Workaround

      1. The user that is being searched needs to find the content value of "ajs-remote-user" meta tag. This can be obtained from the page source.
      2. Have them log into Jira and view an issue in which they are assigned.
      3. View the page source
      4. Search for "ajs-remote-user"
      5. Have them copy the value for "content" and send it to you.

            Dear customers,

User Picker is now rolled out.

In Configuration, we can select "Account ID", then type and select user from the dropdown list. See screenshot:

By selecting user from the drop down list, this bug should be fixed for most of cases. However, we still have a bug which is similar to this one, but it's another case, you can find the details, watch & vote for the ticket here: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-78878

            Thanks.

            Hi 7154a242742c da4c6da91766

The fix for this is being rolled out, it will take more time to appear in instances which opted in the bundle release.

If you are not sure about your instance, please raise a support ticket and point the supporter to my comment here, they will be able to help you.

            Thanks.

            Hi,

This is still not working for me. Is there any ETA for when it will be resolved, please? This is a really important tool. Thanks!

Hi folks. I'd advocate for setting the priority of this bug to 4. I don't know of another way to find a "log" of a user's activity in JIRA outside of the activity stream. I've come to depend on the activity stream's logging capability for a required job function, and I can't do that function without it. Thanks.

            Hello,

The Activity - comment added filter is showing now however, the number of tickets is not showing. It's like there are no tickets processed at all while we know for sure there are.

If this could be resolved, it would help a great lot.

            Hello,

I am also having an issue that may be related. The activity filter will not save (activity - comment added). The filter has been deleted automatically when the date was updated in the dashboard and even without this filter, the dashboard will not update (with any status like created, commented etc).

It would be great if this would be resolved, as it helps a lot.

I found a potential solution for people on the cloud version to add the username in the Activity Stream Gadget.

It took some creativity to find the username.

Steps I took to locate the username

            1. Created a two-dimensional filter statistics view in a dashboard
            2. Created a filter using project + assignee I am looking for to locate the "username"
            3. Assign the saved filter in the two-dimensional filter statistics and Save
            4. Click on the Total Number of Issues below the user you are trying to locate the user name.  Clicking on the total number of issues will take you to the issue search query page and you'll find the assignee in an alphanumeric value listed in the command line.
            5. Return to your Activity Stream Gadget and add the username and insert the assignee alphanumeric value from the step above

Hope this helps anyone who feels limited by other solution provided.

Unfortunetely I don't have permission to view the source code, since the company I work for has high security.

yeah, nice workaround... Instead of fixing the bug, let your customers spend hours explaining to colleagues how to find `ajs-remote-user` and so... And then I should probably make a text document for myself with all of my colleagues' ajs-es??? This is ridiculuous.

btw how about workaround for users associated with external apps? There is no way to get their ajs-remote-user. Is it? Or what if I need to filter several users? Atlassian shame on you.

this is hurting my team's productivity. +1 to bumping priority to fix. we're trying to implement a weekly review of everyone's activity, by individual, and want this in Jira.

There is a work-around but it's a bit cumbersome.  You'll need the person for which you're trying to search to give you the content value for the "ajs-remote-user" meta tag.  This can be obtained from the page source.

            1. Have them log into Jira and view an issue in which they are assigned
            2. View the page source
            3. Search for "ajs-remote-user"
            4. Have them copy the value for "content" and send it to you.

This works for Atlassian Cloud, not sure about installed versions.

Also, if you want to search for multiple users in the Activity Stream, separate the values with a comma.  That has worked for me.

Ho do you select a user in the filter?

I do not see drop down list or suggestions.

User ID (from the URL of user profile) also does not work.

@Atlassian, Low priority of this issue contradicts your bug fix policy, it should be at least Medium or High.

I would also appreciate this functionality being fixed, as the workaround is pretty rough

The real expected functionality here is that you just type a user's name in and it auto-fills whatever backend ID needs to be there.

Completely defeats the purpose of having a customizable dashboard if one of the most important/useful gadgets, Activity Stream by User doesn't work. This is obviously not on anyone's radar to fix which is really disappointing since it is basic functionality and probably not a big lift to address.

We have also the problem. Now it suddenly works again. The behavior varies a lot with the activity log. Yesterday, for example, we had another error message again. The activity log behaves differently every day and is very unreliable. 1 week ago, the filter with the user has output very old entries only from 2019.  We have also filtered by username or by user ID and each time it shows a different behavior after a certain time.

We hope that you can fix it.

Ridiculous that I have to go to every single team member and have them "inspect" the Jira source to pull this random ajs-remote-user ID, which is different from their User Account ID, User Display Name, and User E-mail Address. Makes absolutely zero sense...unreal how Atlassian gets away with such junk sometimes. Also, linking to a related issue that's been "gathering interest" since 2012...

            @Shimon Bitton

Recently I spent some time digging into the issue and trying to find a workaround. Also contacted support, etc. As a matter of fact, there is no sustainable workaround available to make filters on activity stream to be working as they should. They are just broken. For some users filter works when login e-mail is provided, for others first name, for the 3rd you have to dig the ajs-remote-user and use that one, etc.

@Atlassian, is it still not the right time to put some efforts and refactor that shame you're offering instead of properly working filters?

This does work for most of our users, but unfortunately not for some of them. We've built a dashboard that shows the recent activity of our whole team. It's really important for us to have this ability for every user. Could you please increase the priority of this bug?

This is really painful for my team. I have just deployed this to another 20 staff and I have built each one their own page. That shows them advanced metrics about there tasks. But it can't show a simple activity feed for them individually

The idea of a Dashboard to view recent Activity across a team, by User is extremely useful, so especially given this is a Key Dashboard for this purpose, and it randomly doesn't work with a minority of usernames for no obvious reason is frustrating, so hopefully this is a quick fix.

The issue can be minimised by using USERNAME IS NOT (and list usernames seperated by space you 'DO NOT' want to see), but you are then restricted to seeing only users affected by this bug, in a view.
