The Activity Stream gadget is not sorting activities correctly

      Summary

The Activity Stream gadget is not sorting activities correctly.

      Steps to Reproduce

      1. Have the Activity Stream gadget on a dashboard, with activity from a day before, preferably.

      Expected Results

The activity is displayed ordered, starting with activity from 'Today' and then showing activity from previous days.

      Actual Results

The activity stream does not have a specific order. It can start showing activity from 'Yesterday', then 'Today' and 'Yesterday' and then the other days.

      Notes

      • On older activity, the date may not match. For example, checking the Activity Stream on Thursday, and expanding to show older activity, the activity from Monday displayed as 2 days ago:
      • In certain cases, clicking on Show more to display older activity can also change the displaying order.

      Workaround

Try to clean the cache and refresh the page.

We're still facing the sorting issue in Jira 9.2.0

            Hi watchers,

We fixed and verified that the bug, sorting issue, has been fixed.

We understand that you may be still facing some problems with activity stream gadget. Please watch these 2 tickets that we're working on:

            Thanks,

Please watch these 2 tickets that we're working on: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-79161  (Some activities are not displayed in the Activity Stream gadget when the number of displayed items is limited to a small number) https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-78878  (Jira Activity Stream gadget does not show all information in some cases, and the return is “user has had no activity”.) Thanks,

            Hi ae999e6bf465

Sorry about what you faced recently.

We recently fixed the sorting issues and still got your comment that made me confused, but after looking at the screenshot you provided. Look like the sorting issues have been fixed, but the problem is: you missed some activities in there, as you said: you do it daily but there's a gap which doesn't make sense.

In this case, we're actively working to fix these 2 bugs:

Please accept my apology. These 2 tickets are In Progress and we're looking at them right now.

            Thanks.

Here's the last comment on that ticket:
We could, then, relate this behaviour to the following bug:

JRACLOUD-68496 - The Activity Stream gadget is not sorting activities correctly
I've linked this ticket to the bug. Please consider adding yourself as a watcher. This way it raises awareness to our development team about this issue, and you get updated as we make progress with this.

As a workaround, whenever this happens, you can try to maximize the Activity Stream gadget of your dashboard or clean the cache of your browser.

I'm suggesting resolution to this ticket as "Atlassian Bug". If you feel we need to discuss this further, just reply back. I'll be more than glad to help you.

Here's another example. This is my feed today and this has been the behavior of the feed since I've had JIRA in the environment, more than 4 years. It would appear I cannot upload attachments, which is convenient. So here's a link. https://www.screencast.com/t/Rd6M3nNJ

This is the top of my feed today. I have comments starting today. Then it goes to two days ago. Then it goes to 6 days ago. Then it goes to May 20, then it goes to April 14.

I have daily activity in JIRA. It's impossible for there to be gaps in comments. As I mentioned above things start to break when tasks close out.

This Activity Feed provides value only in the short term. Perhaps only the last 24 hours if no tasks are closed. If tasks are closed, then all bets are off.

Hi ae999e6bf465 - Your message is not very clear to me that which problem you are really facing or you are facing the sorting issue, because we're tracking and working hard to fix bugs from activity streams, I would like to understand clearer about your case. If possible, please open a support request, and tell the support engineer about this comment from me, they will be able to contact me internally and we will investigate your problem and have a reply to you.

After several years of waiting and 'Gathering Impact', this apparently is not a priority for Atlassian.

I wish I could use and depend this feed, but it's so terribly broken. Every time multiple tasks get closed out in a short period of time, the whole activities get lost. It's demonstrably broken and not providing the result it's supposed to. Remove it from folks ability to add if no attention is going to be made on this very clear bug.

Provide solutions in the product that actually work and produce expected results over something that sort of works and creates more frustration for folks when they figure out how broken it truly is.

Have searched endlessly for updates to the issue. I still cannot filter on users in the Activity Stream gadget. It's of no use at the moment.

Yeah the implementation is pretty baffling, the whole point is to review a stream of data. If it's not in order, what's the point. I'd like to use this feature but I just can't. Instead I use the "Updated Recently" issue filter, which sucks, but is better than nothing.

I've made a post to the community about this to try and get attention. If this is still an issue for there, I'd suggest making some noise there with me.

I reported this on JST-417784 back in 10/2018. I ran across this again today when trying to do an account review on the Project summary vs. the Dashboard Summary. The comment exists on the JIRA dashboard, but does not appear on the Project summary page.

What's the point of having an activity widget, if you don't know the order in which the activities happened?

This looks like a super easy bug to fix and yet, it's super annoying to everyone using this widget.

This is terrible, after a full year you are still not able to fix this minor issue.

As company that has multiple people that rely on activity feed, this makes Jira for us not worth the money we are paying it.

Plot twist- nobody at Atlassian ever sees these comments due to the bug keeping them from hitting the activity feed.

Can we get someone from Atlassian to comment on this?

This should not be a minor bug. It presumably impacts everyone using the component, and the vast majority of people probably do not even realize it.

This is an unfortunate bug that makes activity stream useless - and the worst part is if someone doesn't know about the bug they'll never notice without going several pages back to see more activity from today.

It's a right pain as you have to keep paging through the entries because you are never sure everything has been included in the first page. Often you find something on page 3 that should have been on page 1! Especially annoying as we use jira's activity log to remind us what we have been working on for our timesheets.
