Problem Definition

Jira allows admins to multiple create custom fields with the same name. The custom fields appear as duplicates even though they are separate fields.

JQL field searching example:

There are 2 custom fields with the same name, but they are completely different fields.

Suggested Solution

Do not allow Jira to create multiple custom fields with the same name - each custom field must have a unique name.

Why this is important

Having multiple custom fields can be confusing, espescially when searching fields or deleting custom fields.

Workaround

No known workarounds.
