Provide short versions of field names for use in column titles

In some translations (the German translation in particular), the field names are quite long, and this makes printing issue lists difficult. This could be fixed by providing keys for short versions of the field names to be used in column titles. If the key value isn't found, the regular field name could be used as a fallback.

            Hi guys,

Add-on JExcel works like the Issue Navigator but it allows you to rename the columns.
It totally woks like Excel in JIRA. And it is completely free.

            Feel free to try it:

            Hope it helps you.

            Regards, Mark

This is also a feature I'd really like. I've also added a question about this feature on Atlassian Answers but neven got a reply to this question. Today I found this issue and voted for it.

Are their any plans for adding this functionality in the near future?

            Nick,
            There is nothing about translation.
This is a request for new functionality - ability to define custom names for fields to show in the navigator grid.
See issue added by me, more details are there,
it was "resolved" as duplicate with reference to this one.
            Regards,
            Sergiy Lizenko.

In addition (for example), adding Due Date to the Column Navigator shows up as "Due" in the header; in this case, the column width is narrow and the actual date wraps to take up three lines and make a lot of vertical whitespace in the other fields.

English also has many long names, see JRA-13099.
Option for alternative short names is very important.

PS: I can see this request is 2.5 years old.
