We would like to have the option to make checkbox on ticket on the description field, like In github, I can type - [ ] and an open checkbox is put in (or -[x] if the checkbox is checked). Since on Cloud environment it is not possible to develop features, it would be a great new feature to have.

Now we have to create sub tasks to have something similar, although this is just a workaround since it is not the same functionality.

I would make much easier to have checkboxes.

Hi All! If you're like me one of the first things you tried was utilizing the new checkboxes in automation. It seems the markup did not make it there. Please vote on this feature request to show your support for it!

HI 8ab0221c86ae! I just tested and writing [] and hitting space results in an Action item being added to the row. Can you confirm this works the same for you?

            • Edit: if you are referring to get the markdown to work through an automation rule, the best would be to raise a support request to look at the scenario and understand if its something our Automation team needs to look at.

2239430e27fb as c2bc407e9e90 mentioned, the markdown support for action items doesn't seem to work.

Any variation of '[]' , '[ ]' , '[x]' etc just get rendered as regular text in fields that use wiki-renderer.

Which means this doc is inaccurate: https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/markdown-and-keyboard-shortcuts/

            Thanks for the update c2bc407e9e90!

I'm very excited that I can finally use this feature in Jira (rather than having to add a comment or update ticket description when working through a task).

For those wondering, top-right there's `People.Watchers` section where you can unsubscribe from the thread

Hello c40823838df6. There are no wiki markdown codes for Action Items.

Only Atlassian can advise if they will ever be provided, or if creating Action Items will require interacting with the v3 API endpoints and using ADF markup.

c2bc407e9e90 did you manage to figure out how to render Action Items with markdown? I'm currently writing an automation that changes the description of stories to add a DoR and DoD. Having these as lists would be awesome, but all I'm getting is "[]" in the rendered view

Well, Action Items (checkboxes) have been released for Jira cloud. When using the GUI, users can type a left and right square bracket in a rich text field, such as Description, and they will get a checkbox that also supports inline mentions.

However, there is no documentation yet to say if there is a wiki markdown equivalent for use with automations. Putting a set of left and right square brackets into markdown encoded text will just be rendered as normal text '[]'.

Although the documentation for Atlassian Document Format markup doesn't show how to construct the new taskList and taskItem Nodes, if you are comfortable with ADF markdown and interacting with the V3 REST API endpoints, I've outlined the basic format for creating Action Items in the original article in the Atlassian Community forum.

Apart from that, it's a wait-and-see situation for the time being.
