      JIRA/Crowd takes too much time to retrieve a list of users and groups over SSL because it will retrieve all the LDAP attributes(including user photographs, digital certificates, Microsoft Exchange configuration data, etc) for user and groups object, instead of retrive the necessary LDAP group membership and attributes.

      In addition, the remote directory synchronization process retrieves ALL group membership information twice, it should only need to do this once. After you retrieve all groups, there is no need to request each group from the LDAP server again.
