Attaching screenshot throws ClassNotFoundException com.atlassian.jira.screenshot.applet.ScreenshotApplet.class

NOTE: This bug report is for JIRA Server. Using JIRA Cloud? See the corresponding bug report.

The 'Attach Screenshot' action fails with the following error:

      ClassNotFoundException com.atlassian.jira.screenshot.applet.ScreeshotApplet.class

The workaround is to take a screenshot using your operating system's usual method and then upload the resulting file using JIRA's 'Attach file' action.

      Update

This has been fixed for all Atlassian OnDemand instances. Safari browser might require its cache to be cleared before the fix will be in effect.

I replied to your e-mail at 8:48 am EST with the comments below, but they are still not showing up in this issue:

I personally have created several issues at support.atlassian.com over the last few years for my ongoing problems with the Attach Screenshot feature every time there is a Java update.

My most recent issue for this is https://support.atlassian.com/browse/JST-72298

This is an issue I have had to report repeatedly since at least May of 2011, but it still has not been fixed - see https://support.atlassian.com/browse/JST-78844

            Hi Oswaldo

OK noted. I'll create a support ticket to address our issues. Thanks

            Hi musicgroup.support,

This original issue described here was fixed in JIRA 6.0, and its root cause was that the screenshot applet jar was not include in the jira distribution and therefore could not be fetched by the browser when attempting to load it to attach a screenshot.

As far as we know, this has not regressed and the screenshot applet jar is being correctly bundled with later JIRA releases.

Consequently, this seems specific to your environment/environment, it is possible that this jar file has gone missing for some reason.

Therefore, could you please create a support ticket at https://support.atlassian.com? That way our support engineers will be able to help you troubleshoot further. The credentials should be the same as for this site (https://jira.atlassian.com).

            Regards,

            Oswaldo Hernández.

            Hi,
Is this issue fixed on 6.1.2? Our current JIRA instance is experiencing this bug and i'd like to know if there is a patch for the specified version?
            Regards

Thanks Jason. It's interesting to know that both OnDemand and not OnDemand customers are having this issue.

We're not allowed to vote on resolved issues, which is bizarre because it's like this issue will never come back up unless someone reports it again as a new issue and refers to this and says it's not fixed.
I have an open support ticket for this issue and they've asked me to send them my XML. I'm trying to fumble through the errors the data anonymizer keeps throwing before doing so.
Granted, I am not ondemand, so maybe it's not apples to apples.

Why am I not able to vote for this issue?

Another potential case of this issue being unresolved. Currently happening in our v6.1.1#6155-sha1:7188aee installation.

Same for me in JIRA v6.0.8. Can this bug be reopened?
