Problem / Use Case
A customer needs to visualize cross-platform / cross-portfolio work in Jira Align using New Roadmaps. In the legacy Jira Align roadmaps, they could include multiple portfolios in the roadmap filters, which allowed them to see all work related to a given epic, even when that work spanned portfolios.
This cross-portfolio view is important for understanding how a single epic (or set of epics) drives work across several platforms/portfolios and for communicating an accurate picture of delivery to stakeholders.
Currently, accessing the new Roadmap from the Enterprise level does allow filtering of Portfolios, but not at other levels.
Current Behavior
- In legacy roadmaps, the roadmap filter allowed users to:
- Select a primary portfolio.
- Add {}additional portfolios{} in the filter.
- Visualize all related work across the selected portfolios in a single view.
- In New Roadmaps:
- Users can select a single portfolio (via Teams/Portfolio selection in the top bar and filters).
- There is {}no option to add more portfolios{} to the filter.
- As a result, users can only see work for the currently selected portfolio and cannot easily see all work associated with a cross-portfolio epic in one consolidated roadmap.
This means the customer cannot recreate the broader visualization they previously had in legacy roadmaps.
Desired Behavior / Proposal
Add support in New Roadmaps to:
- Filter and display work across multiple portfolios in a single roadmap view.
- Allow users to:
- Choose a primary portfolio, {}plus{} one or more {}additional portfolios{}.
- See all work items associated with selected epics across those portfolios in one roadmap timeline.
- The Portfolio Filter should also be available on New Roadmaps on Solutions and Program Level as well.
The expected outcome is that New Roadmaps can provide a consolidated cross-portfolio view similar to what was available in legacy roadmaps, making it possible to visualize all work connected to a particular epic, regardless of the portfolio it sits in.
Business Impact
- Cross-platform / cross-portfolio initiatives cannot be fully visualized in New Roadmaps.
- Program and portfolio stakeholders lose a single, unified view of all work tied to a critical epic when it spans multiple portfolios.
- This makes it harder to:
- Communicate progress and dependencies to leadership.
- Identify cross-portfolio risks and alignment issues.
- Plan and coordinate delivery for initiatives that cut across platforms/portfolios.
The limitation is especially impactful for customers with complex enterprise setups where strategic work almost always spans more than one portfolio.
Workarounds
- Users can:
- Portfolio filter is available if New Roadmaps is accessed via Enterprise menu.
- Switch between individual portfolios and manually reconcile the information, or
- Export data and create external reports/dashboards.
However, these approaches are manual, fragmented, and error-prone compared to having a single in-product roadmap that shows all relevant cross-portfolio work.
Additional Context
- This behavior was previously supported in legacy Jira Align roadmaps, and the customer is specifically trying to recreate that existing visualization capability in New Roadmaps.
- The request is to maintain / restore that level of cross-portfolio visibility within the New Roadmaps experience so that teams can adopt New Roadmaps without losing critical planning and communication capabilities.
