Problem statement

When the Effort Points is automatically set during the creation of a Story through a sync from Jira to Jira Align, the Connector will attempt to update the Story Points field during the initial sync back to update a weblink, despite the Story Points custom field and Allow Story sync from Jira Align to Jira being configured to Jira to Jira Align sync in the Jira Setup settings.

How to reproduce the issue

1. Kanban team has been setup in Jira Align with the auto-populate value set for Effort Points.
2. Connector's Jira setup is configure so Story Points and Story sync is only from Jira to Jira Align.
3. Story Points field is not added to Jira Screens
4. Create a Story in Jira without Story Points value and let it sync to Jira Align

Current behavior

The initial sync back from Jira Align to Jira will ignore the Connector's setting and will try to sync the Story Points value to Jira.

Expected behavior

The initial sync back from Jira Align to Jira to update a weblink should respect the Connector's setting and will not try to sync the Story Points field value to Jira.

Suggestion

Although this article suggested that the Story Points field will always be involved in synchronization between Jira and Jira Align and is required to be available in Jira Screens, this should respect what is configured in the Connector's Jira Setup settings.

Possible Workarounds

• Disable the auto-populate feature for Effort Points and require users to manually update Effort Points in Jira Align after the link to Jira has been created.
• Add the Story Points field to Jira Screens, but remove the field from the Issue Layout. This will allow Jira Align to update the field while keeping it hidden on the Story in Jira.
