User Problem
Jira Align users face limitations in breaking down Epic-level work due to its dependency on Feature roll-ups. Even with the introduction of a "Capability" layer, Features remain essential for roll-ups, making the process rigid and less adaptable. Additionally, the existing Milestones functionality operates independently but offers minimal data and limited features for effective project tracking. A critical gap is the inability to assign deliverables or activities—such as Commercialization tasks—to specific individuals, teams, or regional leaders, which hampers accountability and streamlined execution of complex projects.
Suggested Solutions
- Enhance Epic-level work breakdown by allowing flexibility in dependencies, enabling more dynamic and adaptable roll-ups beyond strict reliance on Features.
- Upgrade the Milestones capability to:
- Include detailed data fields for tracking progress and dependencies.
- Allow assignment of deliverables or activities to specific users, teams, or roles (for example, regional leaders).
- Provide better integration with other work item layers (Epics, Features, Capabilities).
- Develop comprehensive reporting and visibility tools to track progress, dependencies, and assigned deliverables across Milestones and Epics.
Current Workarounds
Manual communication and coordination compensate for the lack of in-tool assignment features, creating additional workload and reducing productivity.
